Holiday workshops for adults.

Gain in confidence, spontaneity and fluency.

All the workshops are designed to help you deepen your understanding of some common and/or tricky French grammar point. Through observation of texts, both written and oral, you will have the chance to refresh your knowledge of such grammar points and then put your knowledge in practise through a variety of written and oral task-based activities and games. The best way to get your head round those tricky concepts once and for all and realise that grammar can be fun! All 2 hour workshops are $60 per person.

A1 – Phonetics / Pronunciation

In this workshop you will get acquainted with some of Jacques Prévert’s beautiful poetry that we will use as a stepping stone to learn how to distinguish and pronounce some of the more challenging parts of the accent for foreigners, including the “liaison”.  You won’t see time fly as you will be so busy listening, pronouncing, laughing, playing cards. And at the end you will be able to read Prévert’s poems like a native!

A1 – Conversation for beginners:

We will work on practical situations that you can find yourself in when traveling in France, such as ordering at a café, booking a hotel room and asking for directions. This would be a great way to improve your general French conversation, and develop fluency.

A2 – Most common tenses: past and future tenses

In these workshops you will be revising the four main tenses extensively used to communicate at this level, ie. le passé composé, l’imparfait, le futur simple et le futur proche. After a thorough review of these tenses you will be presented with various written and oral activities that will enable you to express yourself more fluently and become an expert in switching from one tense to the other.

B1/B2 : Revue de presse

Anne will lead an active discussion on the current affairs of the week in France and guide you through a French cultural journey.

B1/B2 – Subjunctive

A structured and thorough workshop to learn all the ins and outs of this tricky tense. This workshop is aimed to walk you through the main uses of the subjunctive and give you the opportunity to practise it in all the different contexts. We will use visuals, cards games and unusual situations to challenge your imagination and trigger a reaction that will naturally come… in the subjunctive. We really want to put your mind at ease and help you realise that the subjunctive is not as tricky as it seems.

B2 – Cause and consequence

This workshop will focus on developing your knowledge of structures used to explain the cause and consequences of an event. You will be presented with a combination of structured exercises and more open-ended and play-based activities. At the end of this workshop you will be able to tell a story or an anecdote by disclosing all those little details in the right way and thus keep your audience hooked!

Next time to be confirmed in December/January

B2 – Opposition & concession

This workshop is aimed to equip you with the skills to express opposing views and nuances when presenting an idea. You will work around a combination of structured exercises and more open-ended and play-based activities. At the end of this workshop you will be ready to challenge any French contestant in a debating competition!
